Adding a question to your form¶
Firstly, navigate to the form editor (See: Editing Forms)
Once you are in the form, you can decide which page you wish to add the question to. You can navigate to the correct page, using the Next and Previous buttons or by clicking on the page number indicated in the navigation bar at the bottom of the form. You may decide you want to add a new page to your form.
In the toolbox on the right hand side, click on the plus icon to display the three different tabs that are available:
This tab lists all the different types of questions you can add to the form. Some are simple question types e.g. single line text field and some are predefined standard questions e.g. Track. Each question type or predefined question will have more information to explain what it is. Read this guide on data types to see more of the question types you can add.
This tab list form elements that are available to add to your form. These are generally not questions, but objects that help with the design and layout of your form. For example, you may wish to add a header, a paragraph or text or a horizontal wall.
This tab shows you a list of the existing questions (fields) that already exist in the context you are working in e.g. submission fields if you are editing a submission form. This allows you to repeat questions that have been used in forms elsewhere or have been added in previously and need to be used in this form. An example of this is adding the abstract field in to the Rework form so that submitters can rework the answer they gave to this question during the abstract submission stage.
Once you have chosen your new question, form element or existing question, you can drag and drop the tile into the correct position in the form.
The new item will appear on the form where you placed it, you can now select the new item and configure it as you wish.
Typically, for a new question, this would be to change the question prompt, rename the field to something more appropriate and check the validation of the question. At this stage it would be important to consider other features of this new field, such as its visibility to various users (reviewers etc.) and any further configuration it may require e.g. any options in the case of a multiple choice or multiple select question.
